Foodie Diaries: St. Augustine Eats!

Hello everyone, and happy Monday!

I hope everyone is doing wonderfully. I just got back from a crazy two weeks of birthday travel. That’s right, your girl is officially 21! Though all that means is I don’t get embarrassed by being asked for my ID.

That being said, I was so lucky to get to go on two trips (back to back, I might add) for my birthday. Today we’re going to discuss the most important part of any trip: Food.

I had some incredible eats in St. Augustine this past week and I knew I had to share with you. So, without further ado, I present my St. Augustine Foodie Diary!

Day 1

My first day was fairly chill. Most was spent driving the three and a half hours it took to cross the state. Besides the gas station sandwich that I ate during the drive (do not recommend), the best meal was hands down the Not Your Mama’s Meatloaf Sandwich at The Floridian.

I hate to say it, but this has to be one of the best meatloafs I’ve ever had (sorry mom!). It was moist and flavorful, with onions, peppers, and spices mixed into ground beef. Making up the rest of the sandwich was a spicy datil-ketchup, basil mayo, spinach and tomatoes on a Ciabatta bun. Honestly, my mouth is watering writing this.

As a side dish, I had some roasted red potatoes covered in rosemary. This is a great compliment to this dish if you are a huge fan of rosemary. As someone who is not ridiculously in love with the herb, it was a little much for me.

After dinner, we headed to the Tini Martini Bar at the Casablanca Inn for some after dinner cocktails. Since this was an after dinner event, I wanted to go for a sweet martini, opting for the White Chocolate martini which consists of Three Olives chocolate vodka, godiva chocolate liqueur, and creme de cocoa.

I’m going to be honest folks: this is where I discovered that I do not like martinis.

Sadly all my gorgeous alcoholic Instagram photo dreams have been dashed as I doubt you will ever see me holding a martini again. If you love alcohol, you’ll love this. If you’re like me and would rather drink something super sweet than strong, you won’t be able to make it through.

Day 2

Our second day was where we really hit the ground running. We’d been in St. Augustine for about half a day, but really didn’t get to explore very much. That morning we went out to the beach and participated in a private aerial yoga class, which was quite the workout. Needless to say, we were hungry!

Enter The Blue Hen Cafe, which was genuinely one of  my favorite spots of the whole trip. This place is an absolutely adorable cafe that I would be at every day if I lived in St. Augustine. I had the hardest time trying to pick what I wanted to eat, but settled on the Two Buttermilk Chicken Biscuits.

I never thought I’d say this, but Chick-Fil-A got their wig snaaaaatched. This was the most amazing chicken biscuit I’ve ever had. The chicken was juicy and perfectly crispy. The biscuit was flaky, soft, and buttery like a good southern biscuit should be. The only thing I added was some honey for a little extra sweetness. If you have to pick one restaurant to go to, check out The Blue Hen Cafe.

Unfortunately, the next food that I had I neglected to photograph because I was just that hungry. Luckily you can pretty much imagine it. We walked around downtown historic St. Augustine and Pizza Time caught my eye, and my nose, right away. I love a good slice of pizza, and this is a great, authentic New York style pizza place. I just got straight pepperoni, basic, I know. You really can’t go wrong with a classic!

Since we ate fairly late in the day, we skipped right to dessert as our last official meal. The cutest dessert spot we found was ChocoLattes. It’s right next door to the ultra popular Scarlette O’Hara’s (which is a fabulous drink spot). I was floored a huge array of desserts, which were not only beautiful, but delicious.

I ordered a slice of chocolate cake that was incredible. They give out such large pieces that you could easily split it. That being said, should you choose to eat it alone, you will not be disappointed. The cake was moist and packed full of chocolate goodness. I highly recommend checking out this sweet spot!

Day 3

Our last day was bittersweet. This was our last full day exploring the east coast of Florida. We decided to try some lunch at the San Sebastian Winery rooftop lounge The Cellar Upstairs. There weren’t many food options, but I ordered the Carnitas Street Tacos and a glass of Rose. Clearly these are not an ideal paring, but we’ve already discussed my distaste of strong alcohol, it was a good choice.

Anyway, this is a trio of tacos with carnitas, pickled onions, chopped cabbage, topped with Cilantro Creme Fraiche sitting in a corn tortilla. I really didn’t think I would be into the pickled onions, but the whole dish was a fresh take on a typical taco. It didn’t feel heavy or overwhelming, but still gave me the feel of a taco. A great choice if you’re up on the rooftop.

So, that’s pretty much all the major food that I tried throughout my trip. I had so much fun celebrating my 21st birthday with delicious food, fun experiences, and my best friend.
